The Swiss Foundation "Help for Children",
active in Colombia since 1985, was created by a Swiss doctor.
Since 1989, Dr. R. Spillmann and his cousin Mr. H.R. Spillmann
have continuously developed the Foundation. Today, 8 "Bambi"
homes - three in Bogotá, three in Cali, one in Darién and
one in Medellín - provide a shelter for unprivileged
children, from birth to the age of six.
Our homes provide
a roof over their heads, love and affection and all the care
the children need for their welfare and development.
More than 9,000
of these children, affected by the economic crisis, abandoned
by their parents or orphans, have been given care in our "Bambi"
homes. A child stays in one of our homes until his or her
mother finds the means of existence enabling her to fulfill
the child's needs. The orphans, relatively few in number,
will have a new life thanks to adoption through the obligatory
agency of the state organization "Bienestar Familiar"
with which we have excellent contacts.
Special
project
Since the year
2000, we provide a professional training program in favor
of the parents whose children stay in our homes. It was
financed by the Schmitz-Hille Foundation, then by the association
"Frères de nos Frères" and currently
by the "American Friends of Bambi Homes in Colombia".

A
national director has headed our organization in Colombia
since 2005. She is in charge of the co-ordination between
our homes, the allocation of the donation and the local fund-raising.
Our 80 on-the-spot workers are all Colombian; directors of
homes, welfare workers, kindergarten mistresses, doctors or
auxiliary personnel, all are fully involved and make an efficient
contribution to the well-being and development of the children.
The donations
made to the Foundation are fully remitted to the "Bambi"
homes.The Swiss Foundation covers about 60% of the total cost
and the remaining 40% comes directly from Colombia. This partnership
remains precarious, considering the country's difficult situation
due to the displaced and social problems.
Your financial support is indispensable for the continuance
of our humanitarian efforts in favor of totally underprivileged
children from the shantytowns of Bogotá, Cali, Medellín
and the rural region of Darién-Valle.
